"My art is my search for the moments beyond the ones of self knowledge. It is the rhythmic fantasy; a restless streak which looks for its own fulfillment! A stillness that moves within! An intense search for my origin and ultimate identity". - Meena

'OPEN Doors' art show: Proshanta Karmakar art is a constant reminder of, and victoriously exudes the vital spirit of an old man or ‘father time’.

OPEN Doors runs from December 10th, 2019 till 20 th Dec 2019 and from 7thJanuary 2020 10 10th January 2020
at Heritage Mississauga (Mississauga Heritage Foundation)
(The Grange): 1921 Dundas St. W, Mississauga, ON L5K 1R2 (phone: 905-828-8411)

Curatorial note

While depicting social themes, at times, of a much-repressed society of Bangladesh, Proshanta Karmakar goes much beyond the ephemeral and fugacious. He draws the viewer’s attention to the transcendental undercurrent, that predominantly overpowers his artistic compositions, that appear to be stilled in time.

His art is a constant reminder of, and victoriously exudes the vital spirit of an old man or ‘father time’. The ageless glory of wisdom, ‘the grim reaper’ watches over the eons, surpassing the durations unlocking the ancient, classical closed doors and windows, sometimes solving the mystery at the end of a corridor. The scything and discerning eyes that are embedded in the compositions of the standstill moments in his prints and paintings penetrate through time.

All is grounded and solidified with a powerful sense of standpoint and perspective. Nothing is impermanent or fading. All this is achieved through the strong metaphorical objectivity in his work. It is a spirituous dialogue with a niggling pain, rising from day to day issues, powerfully stating that everything stays within and without, finally culminating into the vermillion touch of inner gallantry and valour.
