Launching Unique Library Books at Brampton Library

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Brampton Library will be launching its First Human Library event which is planned during the Ontario Public Library Week and is a part of the third annual Library Settlement Partnership Day. It is scheduled on Wednesday Oct 19, 2011 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Chinguacousy Branch.

INDIA PAVILION AT CARASSAUGA FESTIVAL OF CULTURES, 2011

This year again the National Association of Indo Canadians (NAIC) is hosting the Indian Pavilion at Carassauga Festival of Cultures, being held from June 3^rd to June 5^th at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-No Indian pavilion would be complete without the typical Indian bazaar experience – so do come and shop for exquisite traditional jewellery, one-of-a-kind artifacts and clothes. Last year the India pavilion was visited by a record of over 25,000 visitors with over 300 performing artists in this Mega event.

The performances at the India Pavilion encompass all aspects of India and try to represent food, dance, music, and arts and crafts from all over India. This year the performances will include folk music and dances from all over India from Punjab to Kerala, pulsating Bollywood dance and song sequences, classical dances like Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Garba, a breathtaking fashion show and much much more!

"ग्लिंरपसिज़ ऑफ द सेटिंग सन"
चित्रकला प्रर्दशनी और पुस्तक लोकार्पणफरवरी २८, २०१० - मिसिसागा सेंट्रल लाइब्रेरी के सभागार में रविवार की दोपहर के बाद मिसिसागा की चित्रकार और कवयित्री मीना चोपड़ा की चार पुस्तकों का लोकार्पण हुआ। काव्य संकलन "सुबह का सूरज अब मेरा नहीं है" का हिन्दी, हिन्दी और रोमन-हिंदी और उर्दू संस्करणों का और उनकी अंग्रेज़ी कविताओं के संकलन "इग्नाईटिड लाईन्ज़" का लोकार्पण हुआ। इग्नाईटिड लाईन्ज़ का यह दूसरा संस्करण था। मीना चोपड़ा विश्व विख्यात चित्रकार भी हैं। इस अवसर पर उनकी कला कि पर्दर्शनी भी आयोजित की गई थी। यह प्रदर्शनी ५ मार्च के बाद मेडोवेल लाईब्रेरी में देखी जा सकती है।

कार्यक्रम का आरम्भ मिसिसागा सेंट्रल लाईब्रेरी की कला और इतिहास विभाग की प्रबंधक सुश्री मैरियन कुटरना ने स्वागत वाक्य से किया। यह कार्यक्रम लाईब्रेरी के तत्वावधान में हिन्दी राइटर्स गिल्ड के सहयोग से किया जा रहा था। मुख्य भूमिका मिसिसागा लाईब्रेरी की ही थी। कार्यक्रम के संचालन का भार बिनॉय टॉमस (संपादक – वॉयस समाचार पत्र) ने संभाला। इस अवसर पर उपस्थित सांसद नवदीप सिंह बैंस ने मीना चोपड़ा की द्विभाषीय पुस्तक का विमोचन किया, हिन्दी की पुस्तक का लोकार्पण भारतीय काउंसलावास के एम.पी. सिंह के करकमलों से, उर्दू की पुस्तक को लोकार्पित डॉ. सलदानाह और इग्नाइटिड लाइन्ज़ को मैरियम कुटरना ने लोकार्पित किया। अगले चरण में मीना चोपड़ा ने कुछ अंग्रेज़ी और हिन्दी की कविताएँ सुनाईं।

नवदीप सिंह बैंस ने सभा को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि वह इस अवसर पर एक सांसद के रूप में नहीं बल्कि एक पारिवारिक मित्र की तरह उपस्थित हुए हैं। उन्होंने मिसिसागा लाईब्रेरी को इस कार्यक्रम के लिए धन्यवाद दिया और कहा कि कैनेडा के बहुसांस्कृतिक समाज का यह उत्सव है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि शायद ही पहले कभी हुआ होगा कि एक ही पुस्तक का अनेक भाषाओं में एक ही दिन और एक ही दिन लोकार्पण हुआ हो। उन्होंने सभा में विभिन्न समाज के लोगों की उपस्थिति को रेखांकित करते हुए कहा कि मीना चोपड़ा न केवल एक कवयित्री हैं बल्कि वह सेतु निर्माता भी हैं। काउंसुलेट श्री एम.सी. सिंह ने इसे कैनेडा की बहुसांस्कृतिक नीति की सफलता कहते हुए बधाई दी। उन्होंने भारत और कैनेडा की तुलना करते हुए कहा कि दोनों देशों यही समानता है कि हम लोग अपनी अनेकता का उत्सव मनाते हैं और यही हमारे समाजों की शक्ति है। उन्होंने कहा कि वह यही तथ्य मीना की चित्रकारी और कविताओं में पाते हैं – भारतीय थाती में कैनेडियन अनुभव की झलक। डॉ. सलदानाह ने अपने संबोधन में मीना जी को बधाई दी और लाइब्रेरी सिस्टम को इस कार्यक्रम के लिए साधुवाद दिया।

कार्यक्रम के अगले चरण में मीना जी हिन्दी की पुस्तक "सुबह का सूरज अब मेरा नहीं है" की समीक्षा सुमन कुमार घई ने करते हुए कहा कि मीना की कविताएँ आंतरिक हैं। मीना एक चित्रकार है और अपने आसपास के बिखरे रंगों और प्राकृतिक सुंदरता को आत्मसात कर लेती हैं और वह प्रकृति उनके अंदर जीवित रहते हुए उनकी कविताओं में उतरती है। क्योंकि वह अंग्रेज़ी की भी कवयित्री हैं इसलिए हिन्दी कविता में अंग्रेज़ी से आयतित प्रतीकों से कविता में और निखार आ गया है। उन्होंने कहा, "मीना सीमाओं से परे हैं – उनका अनुभव वैश्विक है।"
नसीम सैय्यद, जिन्होंने मीना चोपड़ा की कविताओं को ऊर्दू लिपी में लिखा है, ने ऊर्दू की पुस्तक की समीक्षा करते हुए, मीना की कविताओं के उर्दू रूपांतर को सुनाया। नसीम सय्यैद ने कहा, "वह लिखते हुए चित्रकारी करती हैं, वह लिखती हैं जब प्रभावशाली प्रतीकों को अपनी चित्रकारी में उतारती हैं। उनका संबोधन भावपूर्ण और कवितामय था। उन्होंने भी कहा कि मीना की कैनवास के रंग मीना की कविता पर बिखर गए हैं।

अंग्रेज़ी की पुस्तक पर शेरल ज़ैवियर बोलीं। वह कैनेडियन फेडरेशन ऑफ पोएट्स की संस्थापिका हैं।
कार्यक्रम के अंत में मीना चोपड़ा ने हिन्दी और उनके अंग्रेज़ी रूपांतर सुनाए। धन्यवाद ज्ञापन टिया विरदी और मेरियन कुटरना ने दिया। मेरियन ने कहा, "यह मिसिसागा लाइब्रेरी में पहला बहुभाषी लोकार्पण था।" उन्होंने हिन्दी भाषा को न समझने पर टिप्पणी करते हुए कहा, "भाषा का स्वर ही कविता है, मानवीय हृदय हम सबमें एक सा है और आज हम उसे साझा कर रहे हैं।

इस अवसर पर सौ के लगभग लोग उपस्थित थे। मिसीसागा के विभिन्न मीडिया ने भी इस कार्यक्रम को कवरेज़ दी। इसी श्रृंखला में १० अप्रैल को मेडोवेल लाईब्रेरी में मीना की कविताओं पर खुली चर्चा होगी। समय दोपहर के दो से चार बजे तक का है।

"Glimpses of the Setting Sun - A multilingual poetry celebration, BOOK LAUNCH & ART EXHIBITION". Sunday, February 28, 2010, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Mississauga Central Library, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

A special afternoon of poetry reading with a BOOK LAUNCH featuring ‘subah kaa suuraj ab mera nahii.n hai (Adieu to the Dawn)’ in Hindi & with readings both in Hindi and English was held on 28th February 2010. Coming to Canada from her native India, artist and poet Meena Chopra’s intense search has taken her far beyond boundaries in finding her new identity.

2nd edition of her previously published a book of English poems "Ignited Lines" was also released.

Readings were in both Hindi and English, and included a work transliterated into Urdu script by poet Nasim Syed, and transliterated into Roman script by poet Suman Ghai.
Meena Chopra has held several exhibitions nationally and internationally. She represented India internationally on many occasions including at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation artists meet in 2002. Event was hosted by Mississauga Library System of CANADA.
Mississauga-Brampton South MP Navdeep Bains acknowledged how anxious everyone, himself included, was to watch Canada take on the United States, but noted that the presence of so many writers, artists and well-wishers from the Hindi community and beyond was a sign of support for the cross-cultural connections Chopra advocates.
“I consider Meena not only a poet and an artist, but a bridge-builder,” said Bains of Chopra.
"Meena Chopra has showcased poetry and paintings that reflect her Indian heritage and Canadian experience", said Indian Consul M.P. Singh and called this “unselfconsciously multicultural.”
“She does not recognize any borders – her experiences are universal,” said Suman K. Ghai, a friend and co-founder of the Hindi Writers Guild. Ghai transliterated Chopra’s poems into Roman Script for her second collection, subah kaa suuraj ab mera nahii.n hai (Adieu to the Dawn), which was released on Sunday.

Dr Saldahna, a well known philanthropist and patron of art released the Urdu edition of the book.

Speaking about her poetry, Urdu poetess Nasim Syed who tranliterated Meena's poems in to Urdu, said,"She is painting when she writes and she writes when she paints with very powerful imagery".

Marian Kutarna, Manager History & Art department of the Mississauga Library System and organizer of this program stated, "this was the first multilingual book launch at a Mississauga library". She further said, "the sound of the language is the poetry, the human heart is the same heart in all of us and that is what we share here today".

Binoy Thomas, editor Weekly Voice was "Master of Ceremonies" and ably compered the afternoon with his unique wit & humour.

Art Exhibition has been shifted to Meadowvale Library Mississauga and will remain there for view till 30th April.There will be an open discussion on Meena’s poetry on 11th April 2pm to 4pm in Meadowvale Library organized by the Library and Hindi Writers Guild. कुछ निशान वक्त के
झील से झांकते आसमान की गहराई में
बादलों को चूमती पहाड़ों की परछाईयां
और घने पेड़ों के बीच फड़फड़ाते अतीत के चेहरे
झरनो के झरझराते मुख से झरते मधुर गीत संगीत
हवाओं पर बिखरी गेंदे के फूलों की सुनहरी खुशबू
दूर कहीं सजदों में झुकी घंटियों की गूंज
बांसुरी की धुन में लिपट कर चोटियों से धीमे—धीमे उतरती मीठी धूप।
पानी में डुबकियां लगाती कुछ मचलती किरणे
और उन पर छ्पक—छपक चप्पूओं से सांसे लेती ज़िन्दगी की चलती नौका
रात की झिलमिलाहटों में तैरती चुप्पियों की लहरें
किनारों से टकराकर लौटती जुगनुओं की वो चमक। उम्मीदों
की ठण्डी सड़क पर हवाओं से बातें करती
किसी राह्गीर के सपनों की तेज़ दौड़ती टापें
पगडंडियों को समेटे कदमो में अपने
पहूंची हैं वहां तक—जहां मंज़िलों के मुकाम
अक्सों में थम गये हैं
झील की गहराई में उतरकर
नींद को थपथपाते हुए
