Step into the luminous world of Charismatic Chiaroscuro — where poetry, visual art, and digital media converge in a play of light and shadow. This special evening brings together an evocative short film, reflections from distinguished speakers on art’s evolving frontiers in the digital age and a conversation with the artist-poet Meena Chopra.

The session begins at 5:30PM with tea, 6PM event and runs until 7 PM, followed by Q&A, featuring a short film, book introduction, and a panel discussion with distinguished speakers who will share their insights on art, poetry and the creative process.

Poetry Meets Art at Woodstock Public Library - Artist/Author meena Chopra

 

The Woodstock Public Library Ontario will come alive with words, colors, and moving images as poet, visual artist, and filmmaker Meena Chopra presents an Author’s Talk on her celebrated work, Charismatic Chiaroscuro: Poetry & Art.

📅 Wednesday, October 8, 🕡 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM 📍 445 Hunter Street, Woodstock, Ontario Register here

Audiences will be treated to a 12-minute audio-visual film presentation, where poetry flows seamlessly into visual art and digital media. Chopra’s book features 44 poems, 80 artworks, and 78 art video films, each linked with QR codes for a fully interactive, multi-sensory journey.

The event promises more than a reading — it is an immersive exploration of light and shadow, of words and images, designed to spark reflection and conversation. Guests will also have the chance to meet the author, engage in dialogue, and get their books signed.

✨ All are invited to share in this evening of poetry, art, and soulful discovery.

As an artist and a poet of both Hindi and English, I've always embraced the beautiful synergy between the languages, between my Indian heritage and Canadian influences. My creative journey has always oscillated between cultures and the realms of art, poetry and literature.

Confines

I sit near

a clear flowing stream

trying to read

but my book

does not open

I try hard

eves dropping

to descending shadows

from the mountains

but it seems 

my password is lost

in a dark lagoon

words have taken the wings

are now soaring

valley below is deep

my fist is tight

eyes swollen

tired and sleepless

words are seamless.

They are lost 

in a whirlpool.

Why?

Why can I not

read my book

for once at-least?

The Mystery Book

I am a faceless face
in a real time display
structured and showcased
in a modern way

I hide behind
the cleverly constructed disguise.
The dark impinging shadows
constantly knock on my doors and windows
colliding again and again.
They never get to enter
and fall down
fraction by fraction
splitting in
sharp glassy pieces
piercing
till I bleed.

I am adamant and heedless
blind and distant.

I tweet reality every day
I refuse to open up
facing the silent charisma,
evolving mysteries
of my hidden mystery book
I am a viral socialite
standing on a virtual platform
of a faceless
facebook.

Strangers

I sought myself in you.

Strangers we were, still are

silhouettes in each other's eyes.

Remnants of a deflected time.

Monotony

Nonexistence is

claustrophobic.

1 fear remaining an outline.

Your warmth lingers

uncaptured,

fading into opacity.

1 know 1 will burn

till the fire burns in me.

ओस की एक बूँद - The Dewdrop - Oas ki Ek Boond

ओस में डूबता अंतरिक्ष
विदा ले रहा है
अँधेरों पर गिरती तुषार
और कोहरों की नमी से।

और यह बूँद न जाने
कब तक जियेगी
इस लटकती टहनी से
जुड़े पत्ते के आलिंगन में।

धूल में जा गिरी तो फिर
मिट के जाएगी कहाँ?

ओस की एक बूँद
बस चुकी है कब की

The dewdrop
Submerged the universe.
departed
the misty
damp cold nights
Hugged
A fresh and short lived leaf.
Clung to the suspended branch,
A life span.

What is the chance ?
Will it last?
If it falls
on the grounded dust
in a final thrust.
Vanishing ever.

Yet it yearns,
Stilling the beats
Ceasing -
As it never did.!

trying to grab
the hands of futility.
The day explodes.
Whiteness spills
the residues of
the waning moon.

sitaron me leen ho chuke hain syah sannate

khalaon ko haathon me thame

din phoot pada hai lamha - lamha

roshanee ko apani

dhalti chandani ki chaader per bikhrata.

andhoron ki maut

shunya ki parchhaien me

dhadakati hai ab tak

zinda hai

na jane kab se -

na jane kab tak!

Entwined Dimensions

Unravelled mysteries 

coloured wide spaces
entwining dimensions.
The vacuum

became horizontal.
Lines deciphered.
Core looked for its periphery
having fallen out

of the centre.
